Grade Seven:
I will not be assigning any specific homework for this weekend...HOWEVER...we have been very busy this week and some students may not have taken full advantage of classtime to complete as much work as they should have...I have suggested to students that if they are behind that they should take some work home to catch up....specifically see below.

Science...worksheet 6.1...there is lots of material here...they should have the first two pages completed at least.
Social Studies...we began section 5.1 today and they have a 2 page worksheet...this should be near completion.
Math...Students should be working somewhere in section 4.7. NOTE. Students will have a math test middle to end of next week on chapter 4....several students still have no calculator or compass set...these are essential for the test.

ONLY 4 School days left.. In an effort not to have school work carry over Christmas it is important that students be aware of and complete the following:

GRADE SEVEN
Social Studies...Submit their study guide work booklet on chapter 3.
Science...Submit their unit assignment from Unit One.
MATH... prepare to write their test on Wednesday, Pd 3. Students who feel that they may need extra time can bring their lunch and work into the lunch period. I will stay with students who feel they need extra time.
***Students need to complete all the sections and the chapter review in their text. As well, I passed out in homeroom today a sample test for students to practice. It includes the answer sheet. Students can practice this at home. If you are able to do the practice test you should have no problem with the unit test. STUDENTS ARE REMINDED THAT THEY MUST HAVE THEIR OWN CALCULATORS FOR THE TEST.
Tomorrow Tuesday, I will staying lunchtime to provide extra review.

World Geography 3202/3200;Students have second major unit test tomorrow...topic...CLIMATE. Generally speaking the class is performing well...but several students are putting little to no effort into their classroom work....results will reflect this effort I am afraid.
Enterprise 3209. In an effort to increase student averages...I have developed a series of in-class workbooklet for student to complete. This booklet will guide their reading and once filled in will become their notes and primary study guide for the next unit test. Students will also be marked on their completed booklets. These booklets are not difficult to do and there is much help to avail of. In spite of this, several students are not taking advantage of this opportunity to increase their avarages.

Grade 7 Math We are doing decimals, averages and fractions....chapter 3..some students having difficulty. Make sure they spent some time at home on extra practice. They should have to the end of section 3.4 completed by end of this week. I will be having extra math help at lunchtime every Tuesday.
Science 7 Hoping to have test corrected by end of week. Starting new Unit on HEAT. Students have 7 days left to complete thier research paper from Unit One.
Social Studies 7. Students working on guided reading work booklet. This chapter will be ending soon.

Grade 7: Students will have their unit 2 math test tomorrow (Tuesday). It will be very similar to the practice test from Friday. I hope they all do well.
Science 7: Students will be expected to do a fair amount of homework in science this week. We are behind, so students will get extra classes in school and be given work to finish up at home. I hope to have unit 3 completed by Friday. Next week expect a mini quiz on sections 2.2-3.3 and a unit test on the full unit 1.1-3.3. This week students will also be given a research assignment to have completed over the next few weeks...This will be passed later this week.
***There will be no homework in MATH AND SOCIAL STUDIES THIS WEEK. This will allow students an opportunity to focus on Science.

(CONCERN: many students are coming to class without supplies...today 4 students needed pencils to write the practice test...all students should have basic supplies and be prepared for the school day).

Math 7. Students worked on section 1.8 today. For the rest of this week we will be working on chapter reviews and revisiting some of the concepts learned. Student will have their first math test on Tuesday of next week. Please spent time this week reviewing our first chapter.
Science 7. Today students completed to end of section 2.1. On Thursday they will have a mini quiz on terminology covered in the course so far. This quiz will be a fill in the blank, true and false, matching, type quiz....there will be no long answers required. This quiz will be short but it will be added into their unit mark....so it is important to prepare and do well.
Social Studies 7: Expect a test on chapter 1 and 2 late next week.

World Geography 3200/3202
Unit one (chapters 1-2-3) test will be Wednesday next week. Day 8. Pd 1. Students can expect to work into recess time if extra time is needed.

The forecast for tomorrow is for showers 2-4 mm with temps about 10c. I will not know until tomorrow morning if the weather will be bad enough for us to cancel out trip ( I hope not)...so I am asking students to come properly prepared for foul weather...have a rain coat and proper boots.

Fun Run has been postponed due to weather...will be rescheduled sometime in the next 2 weeks.

Grade 7 have permission slips sent home today for their field trip to TNNP on Tuesday of next week. This is a full day trip and the activities revolve around the outcomes from unit 1 in science on ecosystems. Remember to bring signed permission slip on Tuesday.

Work:
Grade 7 Science...cover topic 2.1 today...relationship types in the ecosystem. Questions assigned p.37 Q 1-3; p. 39 Q 1-7. Students have until wednesday of next week to complete these questions. (They should have all questions from chapter one completed by now)

Grade 7 Social Studies. Students have started chpater 2....No homework yet.

Grade 7 Math. I will be gone tomorrow (Friday) for medical appointment. The class will have a substitute teacher. They will be introduced to topic 1.6 Graphing Relations...They will be assigned p33 and 34 for seatwork. Please have these pages completed by Wednesday of next week. Last week I gave a mid-chapter open book practice quiz on chapter 1. The class results were mixed...many students require more practice with these concepts. The chapter test is only three sections away.

High School:
World Geography 3202/3200: Case Study #2 Q7 p. 29-30 / Questions 4,5,6,8,9,10,11 in chapter 2.

Parents:
Sorry for recent lack of info on the blog...I have missed several days lately and will again, on Friday with medical issues, so the flow to classes has been a little unsettled. I would like to update where the children are or should be in the various courses.
Grade 7 Math all work should be conplete to page 29.
Grade 7 Science. Currently workng on section 2.1 in Chapter 2, p. 34. Students should read.
Grade 7 Social Studies. Starting work in chapter 2 now. First test will be when this chapter is finished...students should also read.
To date we have done several projects and assignments in grade 7. Students seem to be doing well...there may be a problem with group work in that students are not sharing the workload.

World Geography 3202. Students now into chapter two on weathering. Assignement and lab have be assigned.
Career Education....many projects on the go...mostly in-class activities.
Enterprise Education...mostly in-class work.
High School students need to stay up to date with their assigned workload...falling behind will only result in more pressure later on.

Social Studies 7: Today class given two assignments. #1. is due on Friday of this week and is to be done individually. Students have to read about the home children and respond to the three questions on p.20. Make sure to do neatly and with detailed answers. Include a cover page.
#2. is a group project ( with one partner, max) Interview an older relative or neighbour or interview your parents regarding what life was like for your grandparents. Complete a three column chart comparing and contrasting what life for a teenager was like 70 years ago and today. Students can get a copy of the chart from class. Assignment #2 is due Wednesday of next week. The info should be displayed on a half bristol board and include photos and other interesting visuals.

Busy Morning in Grade 7s

Math 7: Gave a short math quiz today on divisibility facts. Many in class know their rules but some students still need to become more familiar with them...see p.12 in text. (Math facts)
Starting section 1.3 tomorrow on Algebric Expression.

Social Studies 7: Completed and correct six question on empowerment. A few students still don't have their empowerment poster passed in. Assigned reading p. 10-13 on the empowerment puzzle and discussed in class. Students work: Students will be giving oral presentations next week on one of two questions that were assigned to day in class. These presentations will be marked. Discusss the questions with them and encourage thoughful reponses.

Science 7: Finished section 1.1 today. Assigned questions 1,2,3,4,5,8,10 p. 15.

Career Development: Students should now have their CCP binders. Things that should be in the process of being added to the CCP include the following. 1. Cover Page, 2. Jounal entry #1

Math 7: We have started the course. Section 1.1 is now complete. Working on divisibility rules. No homework in math...students should have the section completed.
Science 7: Started with terms on ecosystems. Homework is to read p. 8-9. Complete questions 1-4 p. 9.
Social Studies 7: Prepare a rough draft for an empowerment poster. Have ready for Monday.

Field Trip to the Sandy Cove BEACH

Parents and Students:
Tomorrow, Thursday, June 9, the grade 7 class will attempt our field trip to Sandy Cove Beach.
The weather right now is questionable..so students will have to be prepared to stay in school or go to the beach...sorry for the inconvenience but the students were looking forward to their beach day and I would like to get it in, if at all possible.
Tomorrow we will have homeroom and period one as usual. If the weather is clearing and the forecast looks promising we will leave for the beach at 9:35am arriving there shortly after 10am. The bus will return to pick us up at 2:15pm to be at the school at 2:50pm. Students are reminded to dress appropriately, bring games (ie glove and ball, frisbee), blanket, and other things to entertain themselves. Also bring lots of food and maybe some fly dope.
Hopefully the day will be a great success and everyone will have lots of fun...."Let the sun shine in"

Personal note: Many students seem to think that the year is already over. There are still final unit tests and assignments being given and final exams are just a couple of weeks away. I know that it is difficult at this time of year to stay focused but the "race" is not yet over. Why run a marathon if you plan to walk the last mile? The number of students in class today without materials and/or putting in little effort was unacceptable. Strong student performance at this time of year is extra important. KEEP THIS IN MIND.

Grade 7 Math: Work as been assigned up to bottom of p. 324.
Can Economy 2203: Questions given today...only three small sections left to cover in the course.
Wld Geography 320"; Students complete questions...only 2 sections of outcomes left.

Final exams only 19 school days away...WOW!

Grade 7 Social Studies will finish the year with guided reading worksheets for chapter 9 and 10.
Students will be given these in class, after we discusss the material . They will be given class time to work on them but they have to take them home and complete them for the beginning of the next class....so if they wish to avoid lots of homework...they need to work efficiently during class time. These guided reading response sheets will be given a mark...so it is important they are done well.
Once chapter 9 and 10 are completed...we will begin review for the final exam.

Grade 7 is quickly coming to an end. The weather is nice and the attention span of the students is beginning to shorten...regardless of these realities...grade 7 requires students to write final exams and these exams can have a significant impact on their final mark. It is very important that your children keep up their best effort.

Grade 7B math results were some of the best this year...very pleased with class. Hopefully these result are the beginning of a trend.

Grade Seven: Social Studies. Complete all worksheet questions to the end of the section "Rebellions in Canada" p 108-111. Students should expect a social studies test on chapter 5 and 6 in the near future...when studying...pay particular attention to notes and questions sheets.

Grade Seven: Math. We finished chapter 5 today. I have assigned all the remaining questions...page. 207-08, Chapter review 212-213-214. Practice test 215. Expect test on this chapter on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. We will be working on more of these questions tomorrow and Monday...do some for homework.

Grade 7B: Today in class students had a catch up work period. They could work on either their math or social studies. They have to complete this work for homework if they did not get it all done in class today. Math pages 188-189 and mid unit review 190. Social studies...question worksheet #1 on chapter 6. Students had already been given 1 period to work on each of these plus today to finish up...if it seems they have a lot of homework it probably means that they are not making good use of class time.

Grade 7: Social Studies. Chapter 5 is now complete. There was much work done in this chapter. Students completed 8 questions sheets which have been marked, also a letter from the 1800's...also now marked. On Friday, (tomorrow) they have to submit their visuals (project) and also their independent reading assignment. Students were also given 4 pages of typed notes on chapter 5...keep it for study purposes. We have now started ch 6 in class...they have a worksheet to complete but it is not for homework...we will do in class. The next test will be difficult..it will be on ch 5 and 6...in a few weeks.

Math 7: Chapter 3 make up work sheet is corrected and passed back. Chapter 4 test was passed back today...results were better then last chapter. Started ch 5. Students were assigned questions on p. 183-185 to work on....They can do some for homework.

Grade 7 Math Test: Because of circumstances I have postponed the math test until Tuesday of next week. Students were given an in-class assignment to complete today and tomorrow. They must have their own geometry set to do this assignment and also for the test on Tuesday. I feel that many of them need to study more for their test. Today many of them could not recall the formula's needed to do the worksheet assignment.

Grade 7 Social Studies: During the past few weeks we have been learning about British North America and the people who lived there in the late 1700's to the early 1800's. Students have been given several independent reading sheets to complete. These sheets play the dual role of being an in-class assignment and being the student notes for this chapter. These sheets should now all be filled in. Today in class the students were given a letter writing assignment. This letter will be due by mid next week. They have to pretend to be a young person in 1800 from one of the groups we learned about in this unit and write a letter to a relative describing in detail what is happening in their lives. This assignment will require some creativity and thought...students in the past have usually enjoyed doing this assignment.

Math 7: Unit 4 will be tested late next week. I will also be giving an in-class assignment/worksheet on unit 3. I will use this worksheet to adjust the unit 3 test scores upward if they do well on it.

Math...students should do some of the questions on "area of triangle" section 4.4 . In general many of the students have not made good use of class time and they are in fact working at a very slow pace...it may be a good idea for students to begin the habit of bring home their math text every night to catch up. I will be moving on to "Area of Circles" tomorrow.
Social Studies...a new guided reading sheet on the aboriginals in BNA was passed out today. This is not for homework...we will be working at this tomorrow in class.

This week is a short week with Remembrance Day. I hope that everyone takes a moment to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice that our men and women in uniform have and continue to make for our freedom. The school assembly will be held during periods 1 and 2 Wednesday morning.

Parents and Students...a change in plans and some news!

Because the 7A class did not get as much Social Studies review as the 7B class this week I have postponed the social studies test until Monday. Both classes have been working well and I don't wish to disadvantage either one. Their Social Studies independent reading assignment is still due tomorrow(Friday) and they both will write their math test as scheduled tomorrow (Friday).

On Tuesday afternoon next week the grade 7's have been invited to Eastport school for outdoor activities that include outdoor survival techniques. The class will eat lunch at our school and then board the bus at 12 o'clock....we will be back for afternoon bus runs. Students will have to wear warm clothes, rubber boots etc...we will be going on the bog and in the wooded area behind the school...so gloves etc would also be advisable. More info will be on their permission letters on Friday or Monday. Sounds like a fun afternoon.

Grade 7 Math. Students have been claiming the recent work is easy...so on Thursday past I gave them a practice quiz...(not counted for marks)...only a few of the students did well on this quiz....obviously they need to practice more..."practice does make perfect." Today I started a new section on graphing simple relationships. Students have been assigned 8 question from page 33-34 to do over the break. Page 31 and 32 help to explain the section if they forget. This is also a good time to review all the concept covered to date. They will be having their first math test within 2 weeks...so heads up.
Social Studies 7. No Homework here...use the time to focus on math.

Wld Geography 3202: class is performing well. We are now half way through the first unit. No homework over the break.
Can Economy 2103: No homework...students should get their 3 news articles reviewed and updated however.
Healthy Living 1200: Students should work on healthy living advertisement.
